The media consistently seeks Queen City Law’s Managing Director Marcus Beveridge’s opinion on matters ranging from property to immigration to construction and everything in between.
Such media sources include NBR, The AM Show, Bloomberg, The New Zealand Herald, Stuff, The Post, and other repertoire. On Tuesday, Marcus was interviewed on the Mike Hosking Breakfast again. This was in response to recent press releases from New Zealand’s Minister of Immigration and Minister of Economic Growth.
These Ministers have advised that in less than 3 months, INZ has received almost 200 applications for the Active Investor Plus visa.
“Attracting investment into New Zealand is crucial for the country’s economic growth. It means Kiwi businesses can expand, hire and grow – and that means more opportunities for New Zealanders. New investors don’t just bring their dollars to our shores, they also bring skills, knowledge and experience that will drive future economic development. It’s a win-win. New Zealand is open for business.”
Given push factors such as wars in diverse places, complicated geo-political issues and a move to the left in places like Aussie and Canada, and pull factors including New Zealand’s physical beauty, our food basket, our world class universities, high economic freedoms, low corruption and more the stars are aligned and New Zealand is favoured despite being at the end of the world. These new rules became the law of the land on the 1st of April 2025. As Marcus has noted in the radio interview in takes a finite period of time to complete application forms, pay INZ the application fee of NZ$27,470, apply for and collate police clearance certificates (e.g. FBI reports and Scotland Yard police certificates), obtain medical and X-ray reports for all family members and provide and possibly refine source of funds documentation plus try and get your head around our small but burgeoning investment ecosystem). Accordingly, Marcus is predicting there will be a small tsunami of applicants and funds flowing into NZ from these golden visas in the short term.
New Zealand’s future looks bright. In the interview with Mike, which you can listen to via the link below, Marcus ponders whether the new Golden Visas may ultimately attract NZ$20-30 billion per annum if we continue to aggressively promote these products and also refine where necessary ( to give that figure some context NZ’s national debt is pushing towards NZ$200B – one can muse why President Trump was fancifully wanting to reduce the USA’s debt via flogging off US$5M gold cards). For example, the property investment rules are poorly designed. As things stand, the current investor settings will ultimately be unsustainable as issues will arise given the shallowness of our investment market and the probable inability of some investee entities to return the $5 million growth investment to business migrants after 3 years. Not to mention possible or perhaps inevitable loss of principal in some cases.
