From Study to Success: A Real Pathway to Residency in New Zealand’s Care Workforce

By Henny Bunardy

In May 2024, we introduced an exciting opportunity for international students to study and build careers in New Zealand’s Care Workforce sector. This unique pathway was designed to transition students from education to employment—and ultimately to New Zealand residency.

Today, we’re proud to share the tangible outcomes of that initiative.

Despite current challenges in the job market, where many international students face difficulties securing employment post-study, our students are thriving. One standout success story involves a student who recently secured a full-time Health Assistant role, classified as a Skill Level 3 occupation. This position not only offers meaningful employment but also qualifies for a 5-year Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)—a major milestone on the path to residency.

What makes this achievement even more significant is the clear immigration pathway it opens. Under current immigration settings, after just two years of full-time work, this student will be eligible to apply for New Zealand residency.

This success highlights the strength of the Care Workforce pathway and the strategic planning behind it. It also underscores the importance of selecting the right course and receiving expert guidance—something we at Queen City Law are proud to offer.

As New Zealand immigration policies continue to evolve, we remain committed to helping our clients navigate these changes and achieve their long-term goals.
